VAHA Cabinet of Local Wonders + Catalogue
VAHA - two years of community activities and the creation of our mobile exhibition CABINET OF LOCAL WONDERS in collaboration with villages around Altenburg and Antalya!
VAHA (meaning “oasis” in Turkish) is a two-year programme made with and for the empowered voices of independent arts and culture spaces, advocating for public discussion and dialogue in cities across Turkey, Europe, and their neighbouring countries.
Our „Wild Coast“ Altenburg Hub was formed as a cooperation between Other Music Academy, Futura - Integratives Zentrum and Stadtforum Altenburg.
In 2021, during the first phase of the program, we created a small podcast series looking into village dreams in the region, connecting the Altenburger Land to the vast shores of the world.
In 2022, we partnered with the VOYN! hub in Antalya. Together, we created a mobile exhibition on cultural heritage in villages of both regions, through personal stories and objects. The Cabinet of Local wonders was toured in a caravan tour in Altenburger Land as well as in Antalya region, along with workshops, community gatherings, cooking exchange, film screenings and folklore dance events.
In 2023, the method of the Cabinet was shared with young artists of the cultural center Mordem Sanat to create a Diyarbakır version, with stories full of strength, sadness and depths around lost and destroyed cultural heritage in Amed and Sur, the old city.
You can learn more about the Cabinet of Local Wonders and read into our exhibition catalogue here (Altenburg Antalya) and here (Amed)!
